According to the March National Rent Report from Rentals.ca and Bullpen Research & Consulting, Alberta cities continue to fare well across the country when compared to other centres of similar size.

In the National Rent Rankings for March, the report placed Calgary 24th overall in terms of affordability across Canada and it had the highest rents in Alberta.

The most expensive city in the rankings was Toronto with the average rent for a one bedroom apartment at $2,240 which was down 0.1 per cent from a year ago but the average rent for a two-bedroom of $2,910 rose by 9.3 per cent year-over-year.

The report ranked 38 locations across Canada. Here is where the Alberta cities ranked with their average rent for one-bedrooms and two-bedrooms and their percentage change from a year ago:

Calgary (24) – $1,216 (1BR), -4.3 per cent; $1,459 (2BR) +1.5 per cent;

Fort McMurray  (27)- $1,153 (1BR), -8.5 per cent; $1,247 (2BR), -9.8 per cent;

Edmonton (31)- $1,058 (1BR), -5.2 per cent; $1,294 (2BR), -4.1 per cent;

Grande Prairie (32)- $1,020 (1BR(, -0.21 per cent; $1,201 (2BR), -1.4 per cent;

Red Deer (34)- $959 (1BR), -6.0 per cent; $1,038 (2BR), -8.9 per cent; and

Lethbridge (36) – $947 (1BR), +11.6 per cent; $1,079 (2BR), + 5.3 per cent.
