Calgary-based Edo Japan has expanded east, opening its first street-front location in Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga, Ont.

The quick-service restaurant with locations across Alberta, B.C., Saskatchewan and Manitoba was founded in Calgary in 1979.
The company said it has a robust expansion model for Eastern Canada.
The first street-front Ontario restaurant will be operated by entrepreneurs Azaan Visram and Hussain Shivji, who are from Calgary.
“Growing up, Edo Japan was a staple for me,” says Visram. “Naturally, it made sense to transform my personal liking for the brand into a business capacity. As someone who knows the brand well, I believe Edo Japan is a perfect fit for the Ontario market and I’m looking forward to the opportunity ahead.”
Edo Japan has 136 locations across Canada, serving more than nine million meals annually.
