The value of building permits throughout Alberta fell in October compared to a year ago, according to data released on Monday by Statistics Canada.
Across the province, total value was off by 5.4 per cent to $952.3 million. That included a drop of 14.3 per cent in the residential sector to $519.8 million. However, the non-residential sector saw an annual hike of eight per cent to $432.5 million.
The federal agency reported that building permits totalled $318.3 million in the Calgary census metropolitan area. That was down 0.4 per cent from October 2017.
The value plunged by 17.2 per cent year over year in the Edmonton census metropolitan area to $381.8 million.
Nationally, total value of building permits dropped by four per cent from a year ago to $8.1 billion. The non-residential sector fell by 13.5 per cent to $2.9 billion while the residential sector was up 2.3 per cent to $5.2 billion.
