Beltline

The Beltline consists mostly of apartment and townhome-style homes for sale, as this inner-city community is dense and always bustling. It’s on the Southern side of the downtown part of Calgary. Mission

You’ll find plenty of fun in this small compact area of the City of Calgary. It was once called Notre Dame de la Paix and then became known as Village of Rouleauville. This was because a mission was created here in 1899, and a strong French-speaking Catholic Community developed over time. In 1907 the area became mostly English and was annexed by the City of Calgary.

The highlight of the area is considered to be Battalion Park. This place has historical significance and brings plenty of tourists to visit the art installation here. Prior to World War I, this was a military reserve. The area features stones that were hauled here by soldiers. The stones display the battalion numbers of those soldiers, so this is what makes it such a unique tourist attraction. Signal Hill has been around since 1986.

West Springs 

You might want to look at West Springs for your family, which is Southwest of Calgary. The area was once a 160-acre dairy farm, which housed foxes for fur in the 1940s. You will find plenty of things to do in this area.

West Hillhurst 

Another area that is popular in Calgary is West Hillhurst. This area is a Northwest neighbourhood that lies within the inner suburbs of Calgary. It is west of Hillhurst, and it’s bordered by the communities of St Andrews Heights and Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill. In 1907, this area was annexed by the City of Calgary. Substantial development didn’t occur in this area until 1945. Many of the homes here were built as victory homes for the soldiers who were returning from World War II. Many of these buildings still stand today, although they were only built on a temporary basis after the war for the soldiers. West Hillhurst has a population of around 6,449.

  • In the district, you’ll find two schools, which are the École Madeleine d’Houet Bilingual Junior High School and the Louise Dean Centre. The first school is a Catholic School while the second school is a public high school for expectant new mothers.
  • Plenty of amenities for residents are found here. You can visit the downtown west end, go to the downtown commercial core, visit Prince Island Park or find good food in the many local pubs.

Bridgeland 

If you want to move to Calgary, have a look at the Bridgeland community. In the 1880s, the area was settled by Russian and German immigrants. Its previous name was in Germantown. It is Northwest of downtown Calgary. To the south, you’ll find The Bow River and to the east is the Deer Foot Trail. The area is mainly residential, with plenty of single-family houses and Parkside Condominiums.

  • You’ll find food markets, restaurants, offices, retail shopping, schools, churches, and plenty of financial services here.
  • Some of the major attractions include Telus Spark and the Calgary Zoo. This zoo is the second largest zoo in Canada. Telus Park, which is a science center, opened in 2011.
  • There is a large network of pedestrian pathways here with plenty of walking and biking opportunities. Each year, the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon starts and finishes in Bridgeland. This is the longest-running marathon in Canada. The race is a qualifier for the larger Boston Marathon.

Inglewood

You’ll find it several blocks east of the Elbow River and the downtown area. This is the oldest neighbourhood in Calgary. The area was established in 1875 after a fort was constructed here.

Lake Bonavista
