Passive House Alberta is bringing a new provincewide course to Calgary to promote sustainability in residential and commercial buildings.

The organization is a non-profit foundation offering education and awareness tools about building sustainability using the Passive House model for all Albertans including government, builders, developers, architects and homeowners. Passive House (the German term, where the concept originated, is Passivhaus) is considered to be the most rigorous voluntary energy-based standard in the design and construction industry.

“The course is developed for homeowners and individuals interested in learning more about the fundamental principles of Passive House design and how these can be incorporated into a renovation or new home build. This course is perfect for the person who is new to Passive House principles, but is looking to enjoy a healthier, more comfortable home,” the organization says in a news release.

“Homeowners and building professionals can learn how to make their next new home building or renovation become more energy efficient, comfortable and healthier, even in Alberta’s cold winter climate” with the new one-day course.

The one-day course takes place Saturday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at The Meta Space (215 10 Ave SW Calgary, AB). General tickets are $99 per person or $70 for Passive House Alberta members.
